孕茭初期,視全田,發現生長特別高大,但無孕茭的茭墩,要插一樹枝,做好標記,在采收結束後及時連根及地下 莖挖除,因為這些株叢已產生變異,或為“雄茭”,或為遲熟,在采收過程中,發現肉質莖明顯短小,剝開拗斷肉質莖發現是“灰”茭,也要隨時做好標記,或茭白瘦小的茭墩,在采收結束後一並徹底挖除。
